THE Punjab University (PU) on Friday announced results of BA/BSc Annual Examination, 2011, with overall pass percentage of 34.09.
Girl students outperformed boys as the top positions were clinched by them not just in BA exam but also in the BSc exam this year. A total of 153,688 candidates had appeared in the exam and only 52,396 were declared successful. A ceremony in honour of the position holders was also organised at the Punjab University’s Faisal Auditorium at New Campus here on Friday. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran was the chief guest of the ceremony while Controller Examinations Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, Additional Controller Ahmad Ali Chattha, Treasurer Dr Uzma Ikram, senior faculty members, high achievers, their parents and principals of the respective colleges were also present.
It is pertinent to mention here that this year all the three top positions in BSc have been clinched by female students. In the BA exam, the first position was again clinched by a female student while second and third positions were grabbed by male students.
In the BSc exam, Rida Arshad of the Government College for Women, Toba Tek Singh, roll number 148484, clinched first position by securing 682 marks out of total 800 marks. Arfa Waseem of the Superior Science College, Satellite Town, Gujranwala, roll number 027838, stood second with 677 marks while Sadia Parveen of Al-Beruni Government College, Pind Dadan Khan, roll number 112515, bagged third position with 668 marks.
In the BA exam, Iqra Abbas, a private candidate, roll number 079243, from Shahdara, Lahore, grabbed first position by securing 668 marks out of total 800 marks. Muhammad Zahid Zaheer Iqbal, roll number 137185, a private candidate, from Bahawalpur district stood second with 665 marks while Muhammad Hamza, another private candidate from Shadbagh, Lahore, roll number 095709, stood third with 664 marks. The position holders were awarded cash prizes of Rs 100,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 65,000 for first, second and third positions respectively in the BA/BSc exam 2011 by the PU vice chancellor while he also presented shields to the principals of the colleges of the position holders.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran said educated nations were powerful and urged the Muslims to realise the value of education. He said America spent seven percent of its GDP on education whereas Pakistan even did not consume two percent of its GDP.
He urged the rulers to allocate at least four percent of GDP for education. He said Pakistan was the only country which could change the lines of history. He said Pakistani students had a lot of talent but unfortunately there was nobody who could put them to right track.
He asked the students to read Allama Iqbal. Discussing about the increasing number of female students in graduation, Dr Mujahid Kamran said the PU had carried out a survey and according to initial results boys could not complete their studies due to financial constraints whereas girls were ambitious to go forward.
